About The Role
As our MRV Researcher you will be responsible for researching and understanding all relevant components of Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) in tropical soils with a special focus on liquids/fluids based analysis. You will design and manage experiments in order to effectively monitor carbon dioxide removal with ERW. You will oversee and manage primarily our onsite experiments ensuring scientific robustness and high quality. You will take ownership over these experiments, and drive forward our scientific strategy. You will support and work effectively with all members of the science team, which includes supporting and working on all of our experiments and infield monitoring. You will play a key role in our science strategy and will be expected to maintain and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
You will report directly to our Head of Science and Research, Christina and you will work closely with an excellent team of ambitious and hard-working MRV researchers with expertise in different disciplines creating an environment of trust and collaboration. You will often be found in the lab, in the field or by our on-site experiments or the greenhouse, visiting ESALQ or working from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversight and management of the onsite experiments in ESALQ (e.g. greenhouse experiments)
- You oversee the scientific operations, such as design of experiments
- You generate, analyse and manage data related to our experiments, with a primary focus on liquid based analysis
- You ensure quality control checks are carried out on data generated
- You provide support and research to help the science team strategy moving forward
- You compare, present and discuss data and research (e.g. recent papers) internally with our (science) team as well as with leading researchers globally
- You are available to deputise or cover for other members of the science team when they are away on leave or unable to carry out tasks
- You are available to support on field work and infield tasks
- You lead on certain novel R&D topics related to EW
Location and hours of work
- You can work flexibly, but need to be based within commuting distance of Piracicaba, with presence onsite when necessary
- Your nominal working hours are 40 hours a week (8 hours a day)
- You will be required to attend company offsites and other locations for events as necessary. This includes sometimes working outside of your normal working hours.

- You have experience with ensuring data quality and working with larger datasets
- You deep dive into every detail related to the science of ERW in tropical agriculture
- You are independent, confident, hands-on, a go-getter, full of energy and possess an exceptional drive
- You are a fast learner and want to steadily improve your professional and personal skill set
- You can break down complex problems and present them in a clear and concise way
- You have a PhD or minimum a master’s degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, Earth Science, Geochemistry, Biogeochemistry or related field
- You have knowledge of geology, weathering processes in tropical soils
- You are a team player, will to work with and support others in the team where necessary including actively volunteering for tasks to assist where appropriate
- You are fluent in Portuguese
- English is required to a level to present and discuss research and activities with an international team (advanced)
- You are based in or near Piracicaba (SP) or happy to relocate
